In 2018, David A. Gross built a proprietary database covering the box office performance of 3,600+ wide release movies since 1997. The numbers looked good and the ideas were different from what the film industry was seeing.

Gross began sharing his thoughts, based on 35 years of experience in the theatrical movie business, with a few colleagues, friends, and press. They liked the independent and objective approach.

Soon the FranchiseRe email list grew to include —

In 2022, the FranchiseRe newsletter was launched. We send one email every Saturday night/Sunday morning at 2am west coast time.

Mr. Gross is an experienced studio marketing executive, consultant, and entrepreneur. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, then graduated from Brown University with a degree in Classics. His first job was programming research analyst at HBO in NYC. After that, he worked in LA and London in senior studio theatrical marketing positions. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (the Oscars organization).
