The Knives Out trilogy, first a theatrical hit and then two streaming sequels

We can't find another movie series that did this well in theaters the first time, and then at the height of its success moved to streaming for episodes #2 and #3.

1) Knives Out 1 release

Knives Out, released in theaters in November 2019

- The first Knives Out was a revelation, a movie that was written, directed and produced so well, it reminded everyone of how good a whodunnit crime mystery can be.

  • Distributed by Lionsgate, the first film opened to $26.8 million, not a record-breaker but very good. Critics' reviews were sensational and the audience reception was excellent (an A- CinemaScore). The movie had a strong run and finished with a 6.2x multiple (6.2x its domestic opening). It had legs, finishing with $312.9 million worldwide:

2) Episode 2, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, debuted on Netflix in November 2022
