THE WEDNESDAY CHARTS | June and 2025 year-to-date box office summary | July preview | July 2, 2025

- June 2025 finished down -25% compared with the pre-pandemic average (the average of June 2019/2018/2017). The month was down -5.3% compared with June 2024. The goal is to get back to the pre-pandemic average and by that measure, after a good run in April and May, June weakened.

How to Train Your Dragon, $460 million worldwide to date and going strong, 56% from overseas
  • Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible provided good holdover business during the first half of the month, but the new titles under-performed (Ballerina and Karate Kid). During the second half, How to Train Your Dragon and 28 Years Later have done very well… while Elio did not work.

    • It’s June and it’s prime summer playing time. There’s very little room for error:

- Year-to-date, compared with last year, business is improving (up +16.9%), but compared with the pre-pandemic average, the BO remains down -28.4%.

  • The hole that was dug during the first quarter — down -45.7% vs. the pre-pandemic average — creates an uphill climb the rest of the year. The worst of the year is behind us, but the constant battling from behind can be wearing.
